There are no beaches in La Spezia city center, however in the surrounding areas you can find many beautiful sandy beaches, with crystal clear water.

However its worth noticing that not all of La Spezias coastline is sandy, for that reason, visitors will find a variety of coast types also including: rocky areas, pebble beaches and gravel beaches. If you do not want to move outside La Spezia city center to have a bath, its worth mentioning that on Porto Mirabello, you can find a swimming pool bar, however it can be quite pricey, so if you are travelling on a budget, I would consider other options. Its perfect for families looking for a quick bath and sunbathing, without leaving the city center. As it also has a swimming pool for children.

Here are our top beaches in La Spezia:

Lerici :

Lido di Lerici : A beautiful sandy beach establishment in Lerici, with shore slopes into the sea, and shallow water makes it the perfect family beach. Here you will find beach umbrellas and beach chairs and loungers. I would go as far as saying that personally I think it's the best beach in La Spezia. A place where everyone can swim securely. Since you have to pay to access the establishment it's never overcrowded and I always found it to be very clean. There are also lifeguards, toilets, showers and bars.

They sell day pass, month pass or season pass. However as it is very popular among locals as well as tourists, its recommended to book in advance.

Travel tips: If you do not want to spend money on a beach establishment but still want to enjoy a swim and sunbathing in Lerici, you will find many cliffs near to Lerici Lido, were many locals and tourists have a quick bath.

Baia Blu: A favorite sandy beach establishment among many locals and tourists, equipped with beach umbrellas, beach chairs and loungers. Situated close to Lerici. A part from a beautiful beach establishment, it also offers two swimming pools, a wellness center, mini clubs and bars. Another family friendly beach close to Lerici with crystal clear water. It is recommended to book in advance to secure a spot.

Venere Azzura: Venere Azzura is a busy beach, free of charge to access tourists and locals. It's possible to rent sunbeds and other beach equipment at the beach.

San Terenzo: A sandy beach free of charge, and open to everyone. It is possible to rent sunbeds, umbrellas and other beach equipment.

Other beaches in Lerici are: Fiascherino, Spiagge di San Giorgio and Marinella.

Porto Venere:

Arenella Beach establishment: An elegant establishment, well maintained with sunbeds and umbrellas. There is also a bar and showers. Booking in advance is recommended.

Adress: Via Olivio 129, Porto Venere.

Le Terazze Beach and Pool: Another private beach establishment, offering all comforts you need for enjoying a day at the beach, including sunbeds, umbrellas and sun chairs. They also have swimming pools. However one downside, is that the sea water is high, so for that reason you need to be careful with children.

Free beach of the olive tree: This is the most popular beach of the beaches in Porto Venere, and for the same reason, it is often crowded. It is a small beach, free of charge. Nearby you can find several bars.

Palmaria Island :

Pozzale Beach: Pebble beach. Here you can find a small bar and restaurant. Footwear is recommended to enter the water.

Dry beach of Porto Venere - Spiagga di Punta Secco: A free beach with large pebbles. It has a long coastline with a beautiful view, but if comfort is your things, then this is not the beach for you. However on the bright side, this beach is rarely crowded.

Last but not least I have added my favorite beach, which by the way is free of charge, but lets keep it a secret, as we do not want it to get overcrowded.

Le Grazie: Before entering Porto Venere, look out for traffic signs to Le Grazie, and take a turn to Le Grazie. Such a beautiful place, with colored houses facing the coastline, bars, restaurants, shops - and best of all- a free sandy beach. You heard it right. A perfect family beach. The only downside, is that I have experienced a bit of underwater current on several occasions, so if you cant swim or have children, I would advice to take caution before going to deep into the water.

To sum it up: Based on my personal opinion the best beaches are Lido of Lerici (Payment)

Le Grazie (Free of charge)
